Meka history

The manufacture of cable supports with the Meka trademark began in 1978 in Pulkkila, Northern Ostro Bothnia, Finland. The first products manufactured were Meka cable ladders and their installation accessories. The material was steel from the very beginning, since steel has the strength to carry heavy cable loads. Products, which were hot dip galvanised after manufacture, provided a strong and enduring structure for almost all operating conditions.

Meka Pro Oy dates back to 1950s. In 1953 Mr Unto Paturi founded an electrical company, which developed into a multi branch company in the 1980s. In 1990 the multi branch family business wanted to clarify its operation. The manufacture of metal products was defined as company's main area of activity. Thus formed Mekajohtotiet Oy concentrated only in product development, manufacture and sales of cable support systems.

Innovative product development, dimensional accuracy, improving quality of products and developing operations was a major challenge to company's resources in the market situation of the 1990s. As a result of product development, all the cable suppot systems and their installation accessories were renewed. An additional challenge was that some of the equipment required in production had to be designed by the company itself. Product range widened shortly to include lighting tracks, cable trays and cable trunkings. At a later stage, company developed stainless, acid proof, painted cable ladder systems for extremely demanding conditions.

As the operation and production increased, the factory in Pulkkila became too small in the beginning of the 1990s. In 1993 new premises were found in Oulu, which had a highly positive impact on company's operating conditions. The production was developed and the quality and efficiency of operation was improved. By introducing and applying quality systems, Meka met the new challenges of the 1990s brought by international markets and changed customer needs.

Meka's latest products include the Instal product family with aluminium cable trunkings and socket poles and the plastic InForm cable trunking system.

Meka's production covers over 2 000 products that have been used in constructing and installing excellent technical solutions in various large industrial establishments, trade centres and tunnels around the world. The internationalised Meka wants to keep serving its customers in all its market areas with product solutions that improve their customers' productivity. Today Meka Pro Oy is an international company, whose products and services are available and used in various projects around the world.
